When You Feel Done but Not Ready for What’s Next
It often starts quietly. A feeling you can’t quite name. You still show up, still perform, still do what’s expected. But something in you knows: this isn’t it anymore.
Maybe it’s the work that once energized you now leaves you less than fulfilled. Maybe the version of yourself that fit so neatly into one chapter feels too small for who you’re becoming. You’re not broken. You’re simply ready for change.
The In-Between
The space between “what was” and “what’s next” is uncertain terrain. It’s not a problem to solve, it’s a season to embrace. Our culture rushes to fill silence with plans and productivity, but sometimes courage means allowing the not-knowing.
Transitions aren’t linear. They come with detours, doubt, and moments of deep self-questioning. But they also offer something sacred: a chance to listen for what’s true.
Why This Feels So Uncomfortable
As humans, we crave clarity because uncertainty feels unsafe. Yet every transformation begins here, in this liminal space between the old and the new. When you resist the pause, you risk recreating what you’ve already outgrown.
Coaching Reflection
When you’re standing between “what is” and “what’s next,” clarity begins with noticing what’s true, not rushing toward answers. Try exploring :
What parts of my current life or work feel out of alignment with who I’m becoming?
Where do I feel most energized or alive lately and what might that be pointing toward?
What am I holding onto because it’s familiar, even if it no longer fits?
If I trusted that clarity would come in time, what small step could I take right now?
Who or what helps me reconnect to my sense of self when I start doubting my direction?
Clarity doesn’t arrive in a flash. You don’t need to answer all of the questions at once. Let them unfold as small conversations with yourself. Often, the first step isn’t deciding what’s next, it’s learning to hear your own voice again.
An Invitation
If you’re here, you’re already beginning again. You’re listening to that voice that says there’s more. Not more to do, but more to be.
You don’t have to rush. You don’t have to know the outcome. Just honor the truth that you’ve outgrown something and trust that what comes next will meet you when you’re ready.
